City of Frisco

The first settlers came to the area, now known as Frisco, while traveling the Shawnee Trail in the 1800's. The city itself was founded in February 1902 as Frisco City, but shortly after, changed its name to Frisco. The city was named for the railroad line that helped the town grow into a trade center for the surrounding farm community. What was once known as a little town with rich soil and fertile farmland has, today, become one of the fastest growing cities in Texas

Frisco has seen a dramatic increase in population growth over the last 15 years. The population has gone from 6100 in 1990, to over 75,000 today, for a 400% growth rate. The Frisco Planning Department projects over 110,000 people living in Frisco by 2010, and up to 350,000 people living in Frisco once all 69 square miles of the city are fully developed.

The City of Frisco has grown so much that it has become a center for business and activities. Frisco is home to an IKEA, and to the largest mall in North Texas, Stonebriar Centre. Three professional sports teams also call Frisco Home. Frisco also features 19 park sites spanning over 550 acres, a variety of community facilities, and three challenging golf courses.
