Traditional country living would be one of the best ways to describe Prosper, Texas.  The town was born by the merger of two small communities called Richland and Rock Hill during the establishment of the St. Louis and San Francisco railroad in 1902. Once the communities merged, the name of Prosper was chosen because of the prosperous crops that year.  The town of Prosper was the central stop for the railroad between Dallas and Sherman and was officially incorporated in 1914.

Prosper offers its residents a quiet, rural setting without being too far from the “necessities” many of us have come to enjoy.  Frisco and Plano, Texas are the cities that lie to the south of Prosper, and McKinney, Texas neighbors Prosper to the east.  Through development and strategic planning, the town council is hoping to attract more retail establishments.  Although the population of Prosper is under 5,000, the last few years have brought a surge in new home builds that range from the $200,000’s to the $500,000’s.  Most of these homes are built on large lots and/or in golf course communities.  This adds to the atmosphere that one would come to expect when living in the Texas countryside.
